The turn of foliage is one of the most beautiful times in the whole year. It’s melancholy for sure, what with the death of leaves and flowers and creepy crawlies. And I often lament losing shade from the sun. As a brisk walking pedestrian I rely on bountiful canopies to keep the sweat down. But a thought that was new to me this weekend was that while the tree coverage disappears, it also does not obstruct the little sun we get for months on end. The air may be cold but the sun is shining nonetheless and providing warmth and vitamins. Not so melancholy now. Every loss is a gain. And for every gain there is a loss associated. Equilibrium across his creation is a beautiful thing to ponder on.
